Document Linking with Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive

Learn how to link documents to a GivingData record that are stored in Google Drive, Dropbox, and/or OneDrive . Once linked to GivingData, users can open and edit these documents directly from a GivingData record.

1. Click Add New Document.

Documents linked from OneDrive will display the OneDrive logo beside the document title.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I link documents from OneDrive if my GivingData site has a document integration with OneDrive?

No - OneDrive document linking cannot be enabled if your site has a document integration with OneDrive.

How do I set up document linking on my GivingData site?

Please contact your GivingData Client Success Manager if you are interested in adding document linking to your site. Setup is fairly quick and does not require IT involvement from your organization.

Does our GivingData site need to have Single Sign-On (SSO) in order to use the document linking functionality?

No, SSO is not required in order to utilize document linking with Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive. When opening a linked document from a GivingData site without SSO, the user will be asked to authenticate with Google, Dropbox, or OneDrive. 

Can I create a new Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive document from GivingData?

No - users will first need to create the document in Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive before linking the document to a GivingData record. 

Is it possible to unlink a document?

Yes - to unlink a document from a GivingData record simply click the delete icon beside it. Deleting the document in GivingData will not delete the document in Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive.

If a linked document was deleted from Google Drive,Dropbox, or OneDrive, will the document still be linked in GivingData?

Yes - deleting the document in Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive will not remove the link to the GivingData record. If a user attempts to open the linked document from GivingData, they will be shown an error message indicating that the document no longer exists.

Can I create GivingData document templates with GoogleDrive, Dropbox, or OneDrive?

No - GivingData can link to GoogleDrive, Dropbox, or OneDrive documents but it does not have access to manage these documents. This means that, unlike the document integrations with OneDrive and Box, GivingData document templates are not possible.
