Checking Watchlists with OFAC Risk Management (Bridger Insight API Integration)

Learn how to set up the Bridger Insight integration to check watchlists for organizations and contacts.

GivingData’s Bridger Insight integration is an optional feature which allows GivingData users to conduct due diligence checks on organizations and contacts stored in their instance of GivingData. Results of these checks can be stored on the organization and contact records automatically. The integration allows users to select exactly which lists offered by Bridger Insight your organization wants to check, and clients can set thresholds for what is considered a potential match. Once configured, users can run a check on individual organizations or contacts directly from their GivingData records. Users can also check multiple organizations and/or contacts from the Batch Edit function in Organization, Request, and Payment Super Searches.

Setting Up the Bridger Insight Integration

If the Bridger Insight tool is part of your subscription, the GivingData team will turn the feature on in your GivingData site. At that point, a GivingData Administrator at the client organization can configure the tool to meet their organization’s specifications. To do so, the Administrator should:

  • Go to Settings Management → Organizations & People → Watchlist Checks

To configure Organization Watchlist Checks

  • Open the Organization Watchlist Checks Section
  • Click on “Screening Lists” and select the lists against which your organization has chosen to screen organizations.

  • If your organization screens against a list with subsets, you can click the “Manage List Options” button.  From there, you can select what subsets of the list should be screened to refine your results.

  • After selecting lists, choose a Match Score Threshold. This tells GivingData and Bridger Insight how closely the record you are checking must match potential records on the watchlists for them to be returned as potential results. The higher the number, the closer the match must be.
  • The final step in configuring the Organization Watchlist Settings is to determine if you wish to have any Organization Alerts added to an organization record in GivingData when organizations are marked as under review, a false positive, and/or a match. These alerts can allow other Foundation staff using GivingData, beyond the staff conducting the watchlist searches know there is, or may be, a watchlist issue with that organization.  These alerts are options, and you may choose from the Alert Types you have configured in Settings Management → Organizations & People → Organizations → Alert Types.
    • Under review: a search was conducted and a potential result was returned, which is still being investigated by the Foundation to determine if it a Match or a False Positive.
    • False positive: a potential match was returned, and after researching, the Foundation determined that the organization they searched is not the same organization that appeared on a watchlist.
    • Match: a potential match was returned, and after researching, the Foundation determined that the organization they searched IS the same organization that appears on a watchlist.

To configure Contact Watchlist Checks:

  • Open the Contact Watchlist Checks section.
  • To set Screening Lists and Match Score Thresholds, follow the same steps as above for Organization watchlist checks.
  • There are no Alert configurations to set for Contact Watchlist Checks.
