Adding Fiscal Years

Learn how a site administrator can add and edit fiscal years in GivingData.

GivingData tracks each fiscal year individually, which provides control over the specific dates a fiscal year spans and provides flexibility should your organization ever change its fiscal year schedule. Tracking each fiscal year individually also helps determine if budgeting (available through Dashboards>Budget Manager) should be enabled for a specific year and if your foundation would like to track the required distribution for a given year.

Adding Fiscal Years in GivingData

Site administrators must manage fiscal years within Admin Tools & Settings>Fiscal Years to ensure all dashboards function effectively. Fiscal years can be added once a year, or users may prefer to add fiscal years to allow for future planning.


1. To add or edit fiscal years, navigate to Admin Tools & Settings.


2. Navigate to the Systems and Setup area and select Fiscal Years.

3. Click “Add New Fiscal Year”.

4. Complete the information requested in the modal, then click Save.

Note that Required Distribution isn’t required. Budgeting Enabled should be set to Yes if your organization wishes to use the Budget Manager for that fiscal year.

If Budgeting Enabled is set to 'Yes' for the fiscal year, it will then be available for use in the Payments & Approvals dashboards.
